    The application period for coaches wishing to support Team Canada's preparation for the Invictus Games 2027 (IG27) taking place in Birmingham, United Kingdom, is now open. 

    The application deadline is 08-April, 2026

  • About the Invictus Games

  • The Invictus Games, founded in 2014 by Prince Harry, are an international adaptive sporting event for ill and injured serving and Veteran military personnel. The Games use the power of sport to support recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration, while fostering greater public understanding and respect for those who have served.

    As a Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Program, Soldier On has the honour of forming, preparing and managing Team Canada for the 2027 Invictus Games that will take place in Birmingham, UK in July 2027.  


    Soldier On and Team Canada’s primary goal for these Games is to positively support a competitor’s recovery journey through sport as a key to an ongoing active lifestyle. Therefore, Team Canada’s staff must be able to meet a competitor where they are in their recovery journey. Whether it be to get to the start line, podium finish aspirations, and everything in between. 

     
    Team Canada competitors will be comprised of 31 CAF serving members and Veterans with a wide range of physical and/or mental health visible and invisible injuries and illnesses.  


    Soldier On is looking for passionate and dedicated coaches from the military community and civilian population to train and help prepare Team Canada in 11 different sports for the 2027 Invictus Games. 

    Coaching Roles

    Games Coaches

    Up to 6 coaches will be selected to lead competitors’ sport training and preparation over a period of approximately 15 months including attending the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, UK. Referred to hereon out as ‘Games’ coaches.  

    Training Camp Coaches

    An additional 6-10 coaches will be selected to support training camps. Referred to hereon out as 'Training Camp’ coaches. These coaches will not attend the 2027 Invictus Games.  

    Sports at the 2027 Invictus Games

    Coaches are needed in the following sports featured at the 2027 Invictus Games: 

    • Archery
    • Athletics (Track & Field)
    • Cycling
    • Indoor Rowing
    • Powerlifting
    • Sitting Volleyball
    • Swimming
    • Wheelchair Basketball
    • Wheelchair Rugby
    • Pickleball (new)
    • Laser Run (new)

  • Games Coaches

  • Due to the limited number of accreditations available for each participating nation, Games coaches are required to coach two (2) sports during the Invictus Games, with support from Training Camp coaches leading up to the Games.

    Responsibilities

    1. Provide coaching in the designated sport discipline for Team Canada competitors.  
    2. Develop and implement training programs tailored to meet the needs and abilities of Team Canada members.  
    3. Maintain communications with competitors between training camps and leading up to the Games.  
    4. Foster a positive and inclusive training environment that promotes skill development, teamwork, and the competitors’ overall well-being.  
    5. Collaborate with the broader coaching and support staff to ensure a holistic approach to competitor participation and performance.  
    6. Must be available to attend the following in person (all dates are inclusive of travel days):  
      1. Games Coaches meeting at Soldier On HQ: End of May to early June 2026 – 3-4 days 
      2. Training Camp #1: August 2026 – 7 days  
      3. Training Camp #2: End of January 2027 – 7 days 
      4. Training Camp #3: May 2027 – 7 days 
      5. 2027 Invictus Games and Staging Camp: 5-18 July 2027 

    Qualification Requirements

    1. Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident and reside in Canada. 
    2. NCCP certified and coaching experience in primary sport. 
    3. At minimum, demonstrated experience as a coach, athlete, or official in a secondary sport. Coaching certification in secondary sport is an asset.  
    4. Must demonstrate an understanding of adaptive/para sport principles. 
    5. Nation-wide connection to local clubs in their primary sport is an asset.  
    6. Bilingualism (English, French) an asset. 
    7. Submit a completed Screening Disclosure Form.   

    Additional Requirements for selected Team Canada Games Coaches. 

    1. Additional to an NCCP coaching certification, all Games coaches must complete the following NCCP courses: 
      1. Coach Initiation in Sport  
      2. Making Ethical Decisions 
      3. Coaching Athletes with a Disability  
      4. Safe Sport Training  
      5. Making Head Way in Sport  
      6. Mental Health in Sport 
    2. Complete and provide an Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) Or obtain a Vulnerable Sector Verification (VSV) (only if the coach is born before March 13, 1994). 
    3. Provide two reference letters (club, team, athlete, PTSO, NSO, etc.) 
  • Training Camp Coaches

  • A number of training camp coaches are needed to support Games coaches and Team Canada members leading up to the Games.  

    Responsibilities

    1. Provide assistance to a Games coach in a designated sport discipline during training camps.  
    2. Assist in the development and delivery of training camps tailored to meet the needs and abilities of Team Canada members.  
    3. Foster a positive and inclusive training environment that promotes skill development, teamwork, and the competitors’ overall well-being.  
    4. Collaborate with the broader training camp coaching and support staff to ensure a holistic approach to competitor participation and performance.  
    5. Training Camp coaches may attend one to all three of the training camps depending on their availability and geographical locations.  (all dates are inclusive of travel days) 
      1. Training Camp #1: August 2026 – 7 days  
      2. Training Camp #2: End of January 2027 – 7 days 
      3. Training Camp #3: May 2027 – 7 days 

    Qualification Requirements 

    1. Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident and reside in Canada.

    3. Coaching experience an asset.  
    4. Must demonstrate an understanding of adaptive/para sport principles.
